A Cambridge Photographer

A photographer who knows the venue.

Photographing weddings at Cambridge Register Office on Ascham Road is something I do regularly. I know the building, the staff, and exactly how the day flows — from the moment you arrive at the front, through the ceremony in the Brooke Room or Orchard Room, to the group shots in the dedicated outdoor pergola area straight after.

That experience matters. Knowing where to position myself during the ceremony, when the registrar will pause for the rings, and how to make the most of the venue’s outdoor photography area means nothing gets missed and the day flows without me ever getting in the way.

Coverage Built for the Day

Every moment that matters, captured properly.

Cambridge Register Office ceremonies typically run for around thirty minutes. The Micro Wedding coverage gives you a full hour at the venue — enough time to photograph the arrival, the full ceremony, the recreated signing of the register, and both group shots and couple portraits in the outdoor pergola area straight after.

One thing worth knowing: the registrars don’t allow photography of the actual signing of the register. It’s recreated immediately after for the photographs, which is standard at every register office and gives a much better shot anyway. Knowing how that works in advance means there’s no awkward pause on the day.

If you’d like couple portraits at a second location somewhere more picturesque, that can be added for £100. And if you want full day coverage from getting ready through to the evening, the Complete Coverage package has you covered.

A Cambridge photographer who knows the venue makes all the difference. No fumbling, no hesitation, no missed moments. Just your day, captured properly.

Coverage Built for the Day

Couple portraits at a second location

The outdoor pergola area at Cambridge Register Office works beautifully for both group shots and couple portraits, and most couples are perfectly happy staying on site.

But if you’d like something with more variety or a different backdrop for your couple portraits, heading to a second location nearby is a popular add-on. Below are a few favourites – adding one to your coverage is £100 for the extra time and travel.

01
Milton Country Park
Just a few minutes from the register office. Lakes, woodland trails, and plenty of variety for a relaxed portrait session.
02
Wandlebury Country Park
Just south of Cambridge with rolling woodland and open countryside. A peaceful setting that feels like an escape from the city.
03
Grantchester Meadows
The famous riverside meadows just outside Cambridge. Open fields, the River Cam, and a quintessentially English backdrop.
04
The Backs & Cambridge Colleges
The classic Cambridge backdrop. Punts on the river, college gates, and golden stone. Iconic and instantly recognisable.
05
Anglesey Abbey Grounds
Just outside Cambridge near Lode. Manicured gardens, woodland paths, and stunning year-round colour. A favourite for couples who want something polished.

We couldn’t be happier with Richard for our registry office wedding. He was professional, friendly, and made us feel completely at ease on the day. The photos beautifully captured both the emotions and the little details, giving us memories we’ll treasure forever. Highly recommended for anyone looking for natural, heartfelt wedding photography. Thank you!

Absolute 5 stars all round! Not even sure where to start - Richard was super easy to communicate with, incredibly reliable, very pro-active with information in the run-up to the wedding, very clear about what was included in the package and very accommodating with all requests. On the day he put us all at ease, which you can see in the photos! We only hired Richard for an hour, but he captured the day so beautifully, all our guests were blown away by the photos. Thank you again, Richard, for giving us such amazing memories.

Richard was lovely, really nice bloke, top guy. blended in well with everyone hardly knew he was there to be honest, Richard managed to capture the atmosphere ( or planned organised chaos ) of our event with expertly taken photos. Didn't have to wait long either for the photos to arrive. we have been asked for your details by a few of the guest already ... Thank you Richard, five stars

Richard was our wedding photographer and we couldn’t have been happier with the results. He was professional, kind and patient. His service really does go the extra mile and he knows what he wants from his surroundings and areas which ultimately captured photos that are so intimate and special to us. Highly recommended.

Highly recommended! Richard photographed our wedding and during a time that is already busy enough with planning, we were pleased with how relaxed, friendly and hassle-free the experience with Richard was. The photos are incredible and Richard's professionalism showed through with how well he organised group photos and how unobtrusive he was during the ceremony.

It was wonderful having Richard cover our special day. He made us feel comfortable and had some really enjoyable moments while he photographed us. Would be more than happy to recommend him. Thanks Richard.

Richard was great! He was very communicative and informative throughout the process, always replied in good time to emails and answered our questions. He photographed our wedding, and the prices were very reasonable and the images wonderfully crisp. He accommodated our 'natural, not Instagram fake' wishes for photos, and took a good amount on the day so we had plenty to choose from for our album. He has a nice, easygoing way no doubt born of experience, so was wonderful to work with and we felt we could tell him what we wanted. Recommended!

FAQ

Questions & answers

How long does a Cambridge Register Office ceremony take?
The ceremony itself usually runs around thirty minutes. With arrival, the recreated signing of the register, and group photos in the outdoor pergola area straight after, you're typically looking at around an hour at the venue.
Which ceremony room will we be in?
Cambridge Register Office has two ceremony rooms: the Brooke Room (the larger one, with a maximum of 58 people) and the Orchard Room (the smaller, more intimate option, with a maximum of 12 people). Note that those totals include the couple, witnesses, any children, and the photographer. You'll have chosen your room when you booked.
Where do photos happen after the ceremony?
Cambridge Register Office has a dedicated outdoor photography area with a pergola, seating, and greenery. It works beautifully for both group shots and couple portraits, and most couples are happy staying on site. If the weather's against us, there's also space inside if needed.
Can our guests throw confetti?
Yes, confetti is allowed outside the ceremony room in the pergola area. The council asks for biodegradable confetti only, which most suppliers now offer as standard.
Is one hour of coverage enough?
For most Cambridge Register Office weddings, yes. One hour covers your arrival, the ceremony, the recreated signing, and both group shots and couple portraits in the outdoor pergola area. If you'd like couple portraits at a second location nearby for more variety, add £100. If you want full day coverage from getting ready through to the evening, the Complete Coverage package is the better fit.
Where exactly is Cambridge Register Office?
Cambridge Register Office is at Ascham Road, Cambridge, CB4 2BD. It's just off Milton Road in Arbury, north of the city centre, with parking on site and easy access for guests coming from anywhere in Cambridgeshire.
How quickly will we receive our photos?
Your full edited gallery is delivered within seven days of your wedding. Not weeks, not months. While most photographers take eight to twelve weeks, you'll have yours within a week — full resolution, ready to share with family and friends.
Do you cover other Cambridge wedding venues?
Yes. I photograph weddings across Cambridge and the surrounding counties, from country estates to barn conversions. Get in touch and let me know where you're getting married.
