Photographing Here

A Photographer Who Knows The Building

I photograph weddings at Ascham Road regularly enough that none of it needs working out on the morning. I know the rooms, the staff and how the half hour runs, from arriving at the front through to the photographs in the pergola afterwards.

That matters more here than at a bigger venue. The ceremony is short, the room is small, and there is no second chance at any of it. Knowing where to stand and when the registrar pauses means nothing gets missed and nobody notices me doing it.

Up to 58 peopleThe Brooke Room

The larger of the two. Enough space that guests spread out a little, which gives more to photograph during the ceremony itself.

Up to 12 peopleThe Orchard Room

The smaller and more intimate option. Both totals include the two of you, your witnesses, any children and me, which catches people out.

Afterwards

Somewhere Else For The Two Of You

The pergola works well and most couples are happy staying put. If you would rather have a different backdrop for pictures of just the two of you, heading somewhere nearby is £50 for the extra time.

Midsummer Common, Cambridge
Midsummer Common

A wide open green by the river, five minutes from the middle of town. Big skies and no crowds once you walk in a bit.

Jesus Green, Cambridge
Jesus Green

Long avenues of trees and open lawn. It photographs beautifully in the afternoon and there is always somewhere quiet.

The Mill Pond, Cambridge
The Mill Pond

Where the punts gather at the end of Mill Lane. Water, willows and the walk out along the river towards Sheep's Green.

Parker's Piece, Cambridge
Parker's Piece

Right in the middle of the city and easy for everybody to get to. Simple, green and quintessentially Cambridge.

Grantchester Meadows, Cambridge
Grantchester Meadows

The riverside meadows just outside the city. Open fields and the Cam, and about as English as a backdrop gets.

Madingley Hall, Cambridge
Madingley Hall

Grounds and a house just outside Cambridge, and a complete change of scenery from anywhere in town.

Anywhere else in mind? Tell me when you enquire and we'll see if it fits the day. Some of the colleges are possible too, though that depends on the college and needs sorting in advance.

★★★★★

It was wonderful having Richard cover our special day. He made us feel comfortable and had some really enjoyable moments while he photographed us. Would be more than happy to recommend him.

Julita
★★★★★

He was very communicative and informative throughout, always replied in good time and answered our questions. He accommodated our natural, not Instagram fake wishes, and took plenty on the day so we had a real choice for the album.

Katt
★★★★★

We couldn't be happier with Richard for our registry office wedding. He made us feel completely at ease on the day, and the photos captured both the emotions and the little details.

Jonathan
★★★★★

Very clear about what was included and accommodating with every request. We only hired Richard for an hour, but he captured the day so beautifully that all our guests were blown away.

Claudia
★★★★★

Really nice bloke, top guy. Blended in so well we hardly knew he was there. Didn't have to wait long for the photos either.

Anthony
★★★★★

Relaxed, friendly and hassle-free during a time already busy enough with planning. His professionalism showed in how well he organised the group photos and how unobtrusive he was during the ceremony.

Questions

Asked About This Venue

How long does a Cambridge Register Office ceremony take?
Around thirty minutes. With the arrival and the photographs in the pergola afterwards, you are usually looking at about an hour at the venue.
Which ceremony room will we be in?
There are two. The Brooke Room is the larger, up to 58 people, and the Orchard Room is the smaller and more intimate, up to 12. Both totals include the two of you, your witnesses, any children and me.
Where do the photographs happen afterwards?
There is a dedicated outdoor area with a pergola, seating and greenery, which works well for both the group photographs and the two of you. If the weather is against us there is space inside.
Can our guests throw confetti?
Yes, outside the ceremony room in the pergola area. The council asks for biodegradable confetti, which most suppliers now sell as standard.
Is an hour of coverage enough?
For most weddings here, yes. It covers the arrival, the ceremony, your group photographs and a short set of the two of you. If you would like a second location for pictures of the two of you, that is £50 on top.
Where exactly is it?
Ascham Road, Cambridge, CB4 2BD, just off Milton Road in Arbury, north of the city centre. There is parking on site.
