Photographing Here

One Of The Harder Rooms In Cambridge To Photograph Well

The chapel is tall, dark and quiet. That means working without flash, from one position, and without anything that draws attention away from what is happening at the front.

It is a room that punishes a photographer who has not thought about it beforehand, and rewards one who has. Get it right and the pictures look like nowhere else.

The ceremonyThe Chapel

Photography here follows the college's rules rather than mine, so I check what is allowed with the chapel beforehand rather than on the day.

AfterwardsGreat Court And The Colleges

An amount of backdrop most venues would envy, and very little of it needs any arranging once you step outside.

Couples Married Here

★★★★★

Richard was the best photographer we have ever come across and we are so grateful he was available for our wedding.

Usually The Ceremony, Then On Somewhere

Most couples marry in the chapel and move on for the reception, so coverage is worth planning across both rather than for the chapel alone. Send me your date and I'll come back the same day.

Questions

Asked About This Venue

Are photographs allowed during the service?
That is the chapel's decision rather than mine, and it varies. I confirm what is permitted in advance so nothing needs discussing while you are standing at the front.
Will you use flash?
No. It would be intrusive in a room like this and it is rarely allowed. The chapel has enough light to work with if you know what you are doing.
Can we have photographs in the college afterwards?
Usually, though access depends on the college and the time of year. Worth confirming with them when you book the chapel.
We are having the reception elsewhere. Is that a problem?
Not at all, it is the norm here. It is worth having both halves of the day covered by the same person so nothing falls between them.
